By the time the game offered me the "opportunity" to keep my first achievement by buying the game and unlocking it, I was already sold. This was about a minute into the prologue, which actually runs the risk of making you think the rest of the game is not going to be as good as it is. It reminds me more of Abuse (viewed with nostalgia, not in the present day) due to the aiming style than the Metroid comparisons people keep making, but that's largely because I don't know much about 2d Metroid.
It's got a constant trickle of upgrades, constant gratification for exploration, and satisfying combat. The controls are a little loose thanks to analog based jump aiming, but I think that's more that I'm not used to the grab windows yet and the game has yet to penalize me for it. It's definitely more combat than insta-death platformer so far, which is a plus as well thanks to the trauma that Bionic Reloaded inflicted on me. |
