that this lady was not psychic. She may have just had a good intuitive sense of what people are interested in at that moment. If it was an act it seemed like at least she thought it was for real. The people in the church certainly believed it, but then, people in churches believe all kinds of things. I probably just got caught up in the magic of the moment; I certainly didn't find it compelling enough to ask her anything important. The point at the end of the video with the dowsing - "where's the evidence?" - wouldn't really fit here, like it never does with these types of people, because they don't claim to be able to turn it on or off with a switch and will fully cop to the fact that a lot of their predictions or sensations are wrong.
I'm sure that if you did a double-blind test with a 'psychic' and a 'non-psychic' you would come to the conclusion that the psychic had no special insights. But then, in a test setting, I wonder if various other amorphous human qualities ("charisma," "toughness") could be verified either. |
