  • I'm not positive about this but I think the embark screen is different, I think I got a lot less benefit out of dropping the anvil from the starting build. I know for sure there's now a shit ton of cheap meats, there's no way you're going to get one of each anymore.

  • Each dwarf now has a disturbing fanfiction section of their bio where every physical detail is painstakingly described. "She is 67 years old. She has amazingly straight auburn hair."

  • There's now an onscreen indicator when you're looking at a potential site that has an aquifer beneath it. This fixes a BIG annoyance with the previous version.

  • There's now a sort of "medical profession" with several related skills. I didn't put a dwarf on any of them and I am sure this will come back to haunt me.

  • It could be a coincidence but on my very first fort I'm finding a shitload of gems and precious metals. They might have upped the chance that would happen. (Or it could be a bug.)

  • The skill tree when you embark is the same, but once you get to the fort, the skill tree has a more treelike structure and is a lot easier to comprehend.

  • Dwarves now try to finish a task before stopping to eat, drink, or sleep. This kind of sucks because they slow way, way down when they want a break, so it seems like everything is taking longer than it did when they just took breaks when they wanted.

  • The user interface gives a bit more direction now. For example, instead of your stocks just saying you have ???, it now says you can't find out until you train a dwarf to use the Broker skill.

  • Hahaha, this thing is taking a RIDICULOUS amount of system resources. I'm running a Core Duo 2Ghz with 4GB RAM and it was grinding like crazy. I was just doing the normal get-your-base-running-shit and it was using 47% of my CPU which I interpret to mean it was using all of the one core that it could find. It was also using 450 MB of RAM. Keep in mind that this thing looks worse than Pac Man on an Atari 2600. I assume this is because every dwarf is now thinking about whether it is thirsty enough to stop working or whether it should keep on going. Also: calculations regarding how much hair is growing and on what body parts.

I haven't done any combat shit yet, apparently that's all revamped now with even more insane attention to detail (you cut through the hair layer before you cut through the skin layer before you cut through the muscle layer before you cut through the bone layer)... I have no idea if any of this stuff is visible to the end user of it's just there to soak up system resources behind the scenes like last version.

I also read that he added a bunch of shit regarding caste systems and hierarchies amongst the enemy races... I played the previous version for waaaay more time than any sane person should and I never encountered any enemy races. That stuff all happens after you get big enough to have nobles and shit and that's where the game became too annoying to continue. We'll see if it's better in this version.
