Update log: Ray is closing in on the prize (in his mind) by Fussbett 04/05/2010, 1:26pm PDT
Sanitario666: Turing test: Who am I?
Ray of Light: The guy who's 18 months away from owing me five bills

...

Sanitario666: Now what makes you think AI will be done in 18 months? That's just based on the chart? Or has there been an advancement?
Ray of Light: Did I ever make the post or comment where I said I'd let you out for $100 less for each year earlier than 2015 that you decided to buy out?
Ray of Light: because in that post I had it all reasoned out
Sanitario666: I don't recall that, no
Sanitario666: Frankly that sounds like someone unsure of the outcome!
Ray of Light: I probably meant to say it once I got aim back. I was very confident.
Ray of Light: there was some kind of story that got me thinking about it, but it wasn't a big advancement
Ray of Light: just more poeple being fooled
Ray of Light: "I used to be very confident" is not much a slam dunk, I know, so I'll understand if you're not intimidated
Sanitario666: Yeah, the Turing Test "concept" doesn't factor in people being dumb asses
Sanitario666: The Long Bets Kapour/Kurzweil criteria is my saving grave    <--(Holy cow, was that a huge Freudian Omen?!)
Sanitario666: grace
Sanitario666: Someone should chart the rise of computer intelligence overlaid on the falling intelligence of the common turing test human.
Sanitario666: And find the intersection
Ray of Light: do they specify the use of expert judges in the bet?
Ray of Light: I haven't read those criteria
Sanitario666: not experts, but I think they both get to pick, plus both participate
Sanitario666: plus it was more rigorous than that Loebner contest where the humans PLAYING computers act like buffoons
Sanitario666: but I forget the specifics on why I say that now, the rules were long.
Sanitario666: They start out by defining what a "human" is.
Ray of Light: haha
Sanitario666: the other part that's good about this being a dual FSBT/Ray and Long Bet is that for you to win there will have to be an artificial intelligence that really generates a lot of interest, and Kurzweil will declare "I WISH TO EXECUTE THE CHALLENGE!" or whatever thing he has to say.
Sanitario666: And we'll be all "whoaaaa!"
Sanitario666: And then it'll happen! Like a superbowl, but much more important
Sanitario666: And I guess I'll be following someone's Tweets at the event.    <--(Expect this reference to look really dated in 2015.)
Ray of Light: does he only get one shot?
Sanitario666: I wouldn't expect so
Sanitario666: But now that I think about it, you're extra fucked, because Kurzweil has until 2029, so he might not get off his ass on this until 2020, just because.
Ray of Light: no, there are people out there making fun of him
Ray of Light: look at his defense of his earlier predictions. He cares what they think and will want to put this one in the bag
Sanitario666: this is true
Ray of Light: plus, one million dollars
Ray of Light: moreover, Ray K believes in the singularity
Ray of Light: which means he thinks that million won't be of any use to him after a near date
Sanitario666: If I wanted insurance on my bet, I should start flooding the net with pro-Kurzweil propaganda
Sanitario666: False sense of security
