I've been pretty busy lately, trying to finish Fallout 3 before New Vegas comes out. I started it last Christmas and then a couple more times over the intervening months, but each time I gave up out of boredom after an hour or so. Well, this time I buckled down, and I'm currently forty-four hours and twenty-eight levels in. The only achievements I have left to get are the ones from Point Lookout and whatever the alien DLC was called (I don't know because I didn't buy them, they just came with the GOTY edition). The original campaign wasn't any great shakes but these DLC are abysmal! Operation Anchorage was as bad as anything BioWare's ever made, and The Pitt had this great rust-coloured look to it but collecting all 100 hidden steel bars was probably the most grueling thing I've done all year - and that includes starving myself for seven months. Speaking of, I'm down to just under 155. If I can keep this up I should hit the coveted and mathematically sexiest 0% bodyfat some time in November.
One more complaint about Fallout: the expanded level cap introduced with Broken Steel pretty much breaks the game. It was already easy enough to max out everything by level 20; by level 30, you'll have hundreds of skill points and nowhere to put them. Also, they didn't add enough new perks, so every level is a depressing exercise in scraping the bottom of the barrel. Sawyer says things are going to be different in New Vegas but then again Sawyer says a lot of things. I guess we'll see. |

It's always a better idea to clamber over something than to clamber under it, by even before you factor in the CHUDs 10/07/2010, 9:33pm PDT
