I have some hope of an AI revamp given that it's being developed using that transparent open alpha system and the team is allegedly accepting user feedback (time to skew the vote with bots or something). That said, there's plenty that can likely be done just by fucking with the cards that the AI DOES consistently pick - tweak them sufficiently and you may well transform the nature of the experience but at least the AI won't have mechanical vulnerability to accompany its weak tea decision-making. Tweak various other aspects to bring down the battle length, and you may just instill this ponderous shit with the urgency that would make the revised cards relevant - adjust ship stats accordingly (faster engines, deadlier weapons, everything is to some degree a glass cannon), don't fail to do the same for the autocalc function and you even manage to create attrition.
It may be that the best possible outcome of modding is to turn the present tactical combat experience of molasses tic-tac-toe into a deadlier version of checkers, but playing checkers with whirlwind speed and higher stakes could at least spare users the slowboating and false choices presented by the underwhelming effector that is the cards.
Though if the devs just did their fucking jobs properly when it comes to the tactical combat that'd be peachy. |
