Can't speak for the books by fabio 06/18/2013, 3:47pm PDT But yes the movies are awful. Filthy Critic nailed it when he called them book reports by a first grader. "And then this happened and then that happened and then the feather blew up and it was funny." Just scene after scene of events falling completely flat. I can only assume the books had a brilliant 3rd person narrator for them to become so popular, kind of like Discworld where all the movies are terrible when it's stripped of everything but the mise en scene plot. Not sure how closely it followed the book, but what struck me is how every movie was nothing but filler leading up to the final movie where Voldemort would come back and take everything over. Then when the final movie comes around, Voldemort takes everything over...off camera. The entire point of the last 4 movies, and you're just told "Oh yeah there's a fascist government now and the villain took over everything", not showing that so the movie can instead concentrate on Harry camping out in the woods for 3 hours so he can ponder a riddle, never figure it out, and eventually have a ghost just wander by to tell him the answer.
