I mean look at this shit, it's maybe the only good use of meme kitsh that I've seen in a game in years:

Friend of mine's playing it, looks more or less solid for a game from a studio that's shipped a total of three products ever.

Cons he's listed include fucking annoying tutorials, though I've seen a couple of puzzles and shit that seem irritating.

It does the latin american thing really well from what I've seen, no particularly grand plot to speak of but it has character in a way that a whole host of other games from super meat boy to fucking bioshock infinite seem to fall short on or overshoot. You're dead, the lucha champion mask picks you to kick a bad guy's ass, and the rest of the game is romping around in the land of the dead with light world/dark world switching to get through various areas while punching chupacabras and dead conquistadors and other crazy old mexican shit in the skeletal dick with a variety of combos that someone else will have to report on, that's for someone who gives a fuck about fighting games to the point where comparisons and analysis can be drawn, I don't really think this game is about that though because to me it oozes a kind of feel-good charm the way Papers, Please oozes SERIOUS FAGGOT JUSTICE REEK when it tries to be a meaningful art game.

But to throw you mechanics fags a bone - there's platform puzzles I'm sure, the combat has some puzzle-like elements (hit a bitch with the right move or his shield stays up, make him vulnerable and you can destroy him any way you like).

The visual design makes it a game to consider, but I think you fuckers all know how to use your youtube.

Verdict is potentially positive I guess, I'll shift towards negative if that shmup-playing motherfucker tells me it made him so frustrated he was rendered infertile.

UNSOLICITED OPINION STARTS HERE, MAY AS WELL STOP READING

The strong point of this game for me is that it sets a pretty acceptable mood in a way that I haven't seen in a long time and fuck you if you dismiss that and return to your copy of Spec Ops: The Line to get the deep, meaningful anything from a medium that's supposed to also have entertainment value and color and tone other than gritty shitbirds on campaign in stupidfightland on various points of a continuum that goes from Army of Two and Kane & Lynch to Max Payne and Deus Ex and other such attempts to make anyone give a flying fuck in serious fashion when they could be reading War and Peace for that. At least Tolstoy picked some kind of relevant topic, not the UAE getting its shit kicked in in an imaginary bullshit war to underscore that war is bad.

Game writing seems to be behind game visuals in terms of communicating anything useful in the way of theme or tone or really anything this last decade or so. Maybe that's a good outcome of this Holodeck as Manifest Destiny bullshit.
