On the grand scale of "RTS mixed with something", where Trenched/Iron Brigade is at the top and the useless bit in the middle of Van Helsing is at the bottom, I'd rate this somewhere below Orcs Must Die 1. If you hate these kinds of games on principle, then stay away. There are a lot of clever bits and bobs and this is definitely the best risk/reward resource management I've seen in a while.
It gets old fast, though. It's not mindless enough to waste a few minutes on, but after a few plays, you'll learn that there's only a few winning strategies, so you'll almost instantly drop into one of those. I guess if you liked how FTL's RNG would frequently determine whether you won or lost, then this game is for you. |
