Puritanical angle is dead on. Moral Panic of the Left is still an apt description despite the meltdown of our one poster.
Somehow these comfortably living crusaders are under the delusion that, somehow, the totalitarian rule they crave won't apply to them. They are blind to the exploitation of any carny leader willing to pull up and speak the lingo...
I can see the journalists copywriters as self-loathing nerds/hipsters for sure. A drive to shout down, and supress, coming from a place of shame (see the nod to fallen televangelists!). In doing so they continually air more about their own hangups & guilt regardless of which seasonal cause célèbre it comes tightly wrapped in. This also goes doubly for the ALLCAPSer running through campus.
