Here's why I'm not accusing Shnibble of being a lunatic by Entropy Stew 03/13/2015, 10:22pm PDT
So we hired this guy - Asshole, let's call him - who was referred by somebody in marketing. I was not present at that interview. My manger got put in charge of Asshole, and spent a load of painstaking time and effort trying to get him up to speed. Asshole didn't really get any work done that I knew of, and the few things he did check in caused problems. I didn't really see the point in all that coaching, as he obviously couldn't code. Asshole couldn't get along with anyone, either. I sure as fuck didn't want to be around him - he gave off a really skeezy vibe which got skeezier the longer you listened to him. He also switched desks away from everyone else over to the other side of the office so he could "concentrate" or whatever. Asshole was hiding.

After a few unproductive weeks, another coworker was set up as his handler because the manager had to work on something more important than Asshole. I saw the coworker's sanity erode as the days dragged on, trying to explain to, or cajole, or generally get any usable work out of the guy. One morning I walk in and here shouting coming from the conference room. Coworker has lost it. He's screaming at Asshole, and Asshole is screaming back like a blubbering child. In the years I'd worked with him, I'd never seen the coworker yell at anyone, or even get very angry. Asshole brought it out in everyone. I walked out of the building.

After I got back, I talk with the coworker about it, and he is on the verge of finding another job. Asshole has pushed him to the limit. I guess there were finally enough complaints at that point because Asshole was gone in a week or two. Still, it should never have gotten to that point. He should not have passed an interview, much less gotten past week 2 of working there. Every programmer who came in contact with him could identify that he couldn't code, except for the manager. It wasn't even a matter of the manager's coding ability. It was just that he had some manner of delusion that he could mentor Asshole into being functional.

Some time after Asshole was shown the door, we find out that he's gone through something like 8 jobs in the past 2 years. On top of that, he'd been hitting on an engaged/married woman at the office, while he himself was married and just had a child. Asshole was a Cunt.

Some people actually deserve a chance to get better. Others never will. Identify which group she falls into and act accordingly.
