I'm getting shades of MOO3 here when the game doesn't let your supreme galactic emperor arbitrarily decide a planet will build orbital lasers, but instead he has to be coy and build explosives on the planet so the citizens decide they need orbital lasers. Just what kind of libertarian dystopia does this game take place in?
You know what I miss? Victory cutscenes in 4X games. I loved seeing my avatar at the head of a military procession to Orion and making proclamations of a newfound age of peace, but his emperor palpatine robes implying that things are not quite going to turn out as rosy for the proles as he's promising. Modern 4X games just take the satisfaction out of the equation with a simple YUO WIN popup. It took until Dominions part 4 for a brief couple paragraphs to be written about what happens to the world under your now-total dominance. |
