There's a special breed of idiot when it comes to discussing probability in programs on the internet. Ray! called them "no TRUE randomness" idiots when we talked about online poker.

Discussion on the out of whack hit percentages in the Shadowrun games.

When you miss a 99 its like wtf... miss another 99 its like WTTFFFFFF!!!! When you miss a 92 its ok the game's broken. (All in one turn)

Unlikelier things can and should, in fact, happen.

Would you complain that things were broken if you had a winning lottery ticket? Do you whine whenever an enemy *misses* an easy shot at you?

The odds that somebody will get that set of results is basically: guaranteed, unless the engine is broken. You're just disappointed that it's you, but everything is working as intended.

Charles fucking Dickens weighs in.
Oh and by the way. This is about the 500th time it's happened too.

Mhm. As I see it, you've just said to everyone "I'm happy to exaggerate figures to make my point", which is about the worst thing you can say if you're quoting figures to demonstrate a problem. Small anecdotal samples are not convincing statistical arguments at the best of times.

As do the Linux beards
Check the console, you'll see that you're consistently rolling high numbers. It has nothing to do with difficulty or dodge or anything else. Winblows is blowing everything good for you. It's why a 50% chance to hit is effectively 10-20% and why anything lower is more like 5%.

If you have a 99% chance to hit, and roll a 99, you will miss. It's happened to me a few times in a row, actually. Seems like it should be 1/10000. Then there's missing on all 5 shots of full auto with 99% chance to hit. 1/10000000000 chance of happening or something like it. But with winblows, this is all possible.

There is nothing worse than an internet debater who just learned about the existence of fallacies but is still clueless about applying them.
I would just like to note that the chance of missing a second 99% to hit is 1%, as it does not depend on the first hit.

In a game with % to hit these topics are everywhere. it's a percent. It's an anything that can happen will happen kind of deal. It's a dice roll. 99% is still a chance to miss. It could happen twice in a row. It could happen three times in a row. It's not the game, it's the way these systems work. It's what makes them compelling, and it's the reason that other strategy other than relying on your % to hit is important. The fact that nothing is a sure thing in crpgs is why positioning and such are important.

"Must be luck! That's what makes the game compelling!" he said as his opponent drew his 5th straight flush in a row.
