I am in the younger generation, and think the altar of push notifications is crap. It shows trying to scale the iOS/mobile experience to everything.

That garbage can doesn't need power unless it has a compactor. The dishwasher doesn't need to send health reports to the mothership. Honestly, I see it going the way of trying to prevent self-service (see: printers, coffee makers). Gadgets with built snitch switches to continue planned obsolescence, and maintenance markups.
