GoG is easily the best digital distributor overall by skip 05/13/2015, 9:38pm PDT
It doesn't have the variety of games Steam does, but they actually seem to listen to customers and have generous policies on pretty much everything. No Early Access, but that's a feature in my opinion. I wish they'd fix their review sorting, but that's the only negative. I decided all my non-Popcap PC games would be DRM-free a while ago and then consolidated on GoG after that. Desura is a nice idea but has the "everything and kitchen sink" approach of Steam with worse indie game selections. Humble Bundle mainly sells Steam keys and their DRM-free selection is just crappy indie games. The signal to noise when it comes to indie games on GoG is much better.

Of course, let it never be said that gamers can't be entitled shits. They changed the way games are displayed in your library from a more classic "bookshelf" to shelves with the option to view it as a list. The pictures were changed from the game boxes to promo pics. You can also tag games and sort them by genres or search within your library. All welcome additions. Some of their users are dumb and instead go into hysterics. Bleclair wants you all to know that GoG is dead to him.

I sent in feedback about the new account design and this is the reply I received.

"Hello,
Thank you for your feedback. Please note that, over time, the old Account section became increasingly difficult to maintain and expand, which prompted us to replace it with a completely new implementation. Because it is virtually impossible to maintain both the old and new Account section, we will only continue to improve on the new one. The old section will no longer be available, even in optional form.
Some functionalities of the old Account didn't make it into the new one - some might still find their way back in the future, while others cannot, due to technical considerations. As you most likely remember, the old Account became more and more resource-hungry over time, and we wanted to avoid this in the new one.
We hope that, over time, you will grow accustomed to the new section, and please rest assured that we're not done with it yet, and we will be adding features and improvements in the future.

Regards,
Natalia

So no more GoG for me. The main thing I liked about GoG was the classic game shelf with the original game boxes. I'll be downloading my classics and adios, GoG. Not a huge deal because I've hated almost every decision they've made recently anyway; web site design, adding movies, adding newer games, adding social features, focusing on the download client.

Disappointing to see yet another company forget their original customers, vision and lose their soul. Becoming another cookie cutter games portal? I expect they'll be implementing some garbage like Steam Greenlight soon also.

Of course this is my opinion, so if you disagree and like the new GoG, great. I'll be interested to see what happens with them, but without my patronage.

What a reasonable response from GoG who don't even rule out bringing back some old features. But, this dumbass was only here for the game boxes. He's going to download his games and leave, good sir!

BKGaming: Oh boy it's one of those threads, GOG is dead to me over superficial stuff that really doesn't matter...
moonshineshadow: Just because it does not matter to you, does not mean it doesn't matter to other people ;-)
Exactly. Frankly I spent most of my money here because of the nostalgia factor and the design reminding me of my physical shelves of games as a youth.

He could also just ebay some old games and fill up a physical shelf.

moonshineshadow: Just because it does not matter to you, does not mean it doesn't matter to other people ;-)
BKGaming: Hey I'm not saying it shouldn't matter, but the whole lets act like this crap is that important is getting old... like literally the crap be complained about is superficial that has no real effect at all on anything.
Not to be argumentative, just trying to let you know how myself (and I think some other people feel) but it is "THAT IMPORTANT" to me.

At least SJW's are interested in human rights. This man is having a meltdown over slight changes in game library layout.

Wow, my original post is getting hammered.

Oh well, just proves that I don't belong here anymore I guess.

If I had anything positive to say about Galaxy... I guess I could say, "It's not uPlay at least." ;-)

Oh snap!

I wish I would have at least got a screen shot of my old shelf.

GoG needs to give everyone at least 3 weeks warning before changing any pixel on their site. Also, trigger warnings.

bleclair: However, wasn't that how GoG initially advertised and promoted itself with the very high nostalgia factor?
Fenixp: Not really, it promoted itself with giving you the ability to play old games (with one of the major selling points being that they make them run on modern systems) - the key word here being play, not watch them on a shelf or to collect them.
Fair point. I guess I'm in the minority where collecting was actually more important to me than consuming these older games.

I'm finding I'd rather watch a long play on YouTube than play most of them.

Hahaha. He just bought games to admire them on his digital bookshelf. Because they reminded him of when he was younger and happier and didn't get attached to a games library full of games he doesn't play.

Actually I'm not a "real gamer" anymore. I have a wife and a baby, so not much time for gaming. And there's no "rage", just disappointment.

As for what game store to go to? Well, there's plenty to choose from! I'll continue to use Steam and I'm mostly moving to console. Easiest way to play a game with a minimum of bugs + a decent frame rate when you don't have much time for gaming.

I also find many games are more & more "consolized" anyway so the benefits of playing on PC are somewhat minimized. (In fact, rumor is console-itis may have infected Witcher 3... We'll see!)

A gamer dad, of course. And another sick burn at GoG! Nice one, champ.

I have a storage locker full of old games, crazy I know but I can't part with them. I don't collect games anymore, just have the games from my youth. GoG was a nice view into my collection that was accessible anywhere without using a lot of real estate.

You could also put your games on a shelf. Like a real one, instead of bitching when a website doesn't do it the way you want anymore. I could keep going. He's like the perfect representation of what's wrong with this entire demographic of gamers.
