On the one hand it's frustrating to have everybody unanimously praise a movie that doesn't deserve it. On the other hand I hope it reveals just what a fraud most popular online criticism is right now, quislings for a failed state. These guys only know how to make accurate statements about Chris Nolan movies.
Maybe it doesn't deserve it. However, at the end of the day RLM can be honest about what entertains them, and why, or vice versa. I think that is their greatest strength in the face of faux world weary hipsters unable to enjoy anything (for demands of ideological purity, etc).
The other popular online critics are more interested in putting over an act/persona, or waxing about their identity politics, than talk about the actual subject of film. Disinterested hucksters peddling maudlin shit. I'll say again that the YouTube-era of critics continue to hilariously fail at recreating something like MST3K, because they can't write, can't build a set, and have no delivery whatsoever - comedic or otherwise.
Mike and Jay may have fallen in to the trap a bit as well. If so, then they are victims of their own success. Trying to meet a release schedule (say, for consistent ad rev) instead of doing what they are actually have passion for. |
