Part of my ongoing feud with HGB.
Lots of narcissism. Lots of twisted details. It starts out at the beginning where he talks about a white journalist asking him about "his body". In reality she asked him for his take on things going on in Ferguson. He sat there stoned on a rooftop watching planes crash into the NYC skyline and didn't give a shit. Presumably if they had aimed for Harlem he would have had something to say, but no. He was still all pissed off about Prince Jones and so it didn't really matter to him who died.
Later in the book he argues that the chickens will come home to roost in America for environmental abuse and likens it to the slave trade. To Coates, driving your SUV on a summer day is like whipping your slaves back and forth.
He's gone full WEB DuBois at this point. |
