Ultimately I'm going to have to say negative. by Mischief Maker 10/29/2015, 5:28am PDT
Some people are graphics whores, I'm a music whore, and sublevel zero has a wonderful soundtrack. But once I sunk my teeth into the game it came up short.

The whole crafting system is a waste of time. It's rare that you find a combination of weapons that can be tuned into something worthwhile. Meanwhile the game's RNG is more likely to spit out a useful gun than crafting. It's smarter not to carry any guns for crafting fodder and just save the extra inventory space for additional repair kits.

I repeat my earlier complaint about 6 types of ammo, but only 4 weapon hardpoints. When I poked the designers they said it was for "replay value" but in practice it means never equipping plasma guns because they're close range, slow firing, and super situational, while bullet and energy guns all start out with a choice of long range and close range variants.

I still like the graphics, but the procedural level generation is done Daggerfall-style. A small handful of prefab 3D rooms stuck together like tinker toys. A really cool looking location one time becomes samey the next time, becomes boring every time after that. The designers promise new rooms in future patches, so maybe purchase brand new in a sale a year from now?

The enemies aren't that hard, it's when they're hidden away in a corner and catch you off guard that they post any threat. It's the bullet-absorbing crystal caves and later level reactors that prove the real threat.

Still, fantastic soundtrack!
