They're using the food/industry/research population mechanic from MOO2, which never added anything but tedious micromanagement to me.
MOO2 always was the 4X System Shock 2 for me. I never understood why it was the fan favorite. The simple, streamlined strategic aspect of MOO1 replaced with tedious micromanagement and techs that were never rebalanced for the radically different map setups of the sequel. The default races were horribly designed and the majority of the strategy was just coming up with the most broken custom race. The one and only thing MOO2 did better was the early to mid game ship combat, until too many ships got involved and it turned into a tedious mess late game.
Imperialism was a better 4X game than MOO2. |
