There is a notice on the wall next to the checkout desk at the Martin Luther King Jr. main branch of the District of Columbia public library, indicating that if your check for payment of fines or fees is returned for non-sufficient funds. In addition to being liable for the amount not paid, there will be a charge for bouncing the check.

I guess they're really serious about encouraging people not to pay for overdue library books with a rubber check.
