multiple user accounts and steam by steam noob 02/05/2016, 6:33pm PST
I'm considering installing Steam on Linux, eventually. This would probably mean using Steam's recommended distro (Ubuntu?) just on the assumption that everything will work flawlessly with no effort that way.

BUT I want to know about accounts.

Can multiple Steam accounts be used on one system (without doing anything weird)?
Can multiple Steam accounts be used per Linux user?
Can one user purchase a game through Steam and another user on the same system play it, without them sharing a Steam account?
Do you have to log in to Steam to play games obtained through Steam, even if they're not online games?
Do you have to show everyone else how many hours you spend on each game? This seems to be a feature of Steam but I can't fathom why it exists.

I'm asking because there are some things I don't want to find out the hard way. I will however accept a certain amount of bullshit if I know what it is going to be up front, because apart from anything I still haven't played either of the Portals.
