I tried reading it back in 2009 (holy fuck 7 years already?) and gave up shortly after that whole retarded Governor plot. Reach the prison, comic should have ended, soap opera factor goes up to 11, cartoonishly evil villain attacks, kills pretty much everyone except one-hand Rick, his son, nerd self-insert Asian kid and his nerd fantasy girlfriend. Rick goes insane talking to his dead wife on a broken phone.
It seemed like the author was sick of the dead end the prison was and just wanted to reboot the thing. So some people show up including a guy who claims to be a scientist who knows what caused the outbreak and how to stop it, but needs people to come to D.C. with him. I was too burned out with the series to bother continuing.
Recently I was curious I checked out a wikipedia summary. The mysterious scientist plot that was supposed to reboot the series and respark the sense of mystery? Immediately dropped. Rick finds another community to settle in, again. Community is threatened by nearby cartoonishly insane warlord, again.
Fuck this series. (The show too!) |
