The skirmish mode has a ton of longevity, mostly thanks to the AI which I'm starting to think is the best I've ever seen in an RTS game. The mechanics and theme of C&C: Generals were better, but the AI sucked and made skirmish games no fun.
Most RTS computer players will simply send a constant annoying trickle at you all game, hoping that its superior macromanagement will eventually overwhelm you. Act of War's AI is constantly switching up sending small harassing forces at lightly defended point and building up major assaults. It knows how to use air strikes, builds and defends against super weapons, and builds enough anti-air that you can't simply overwhelm them with all air units like in most RTS.
It's a must buy for anyone who had fun with Generals. It took me a while before I was able to beat the medium AI, hard is still a big struggle. Right now the perfect challenge is a 2on2 setup with a medium AI teammate vs a medium and a hard. |
