David Michelinie wrote The Amazing Spider-Man when Todd McFarlane was his penciller and -- whether it was by design or not -- there was a couple years in the late 80s, early 90s where it seemed like the idea was to bring forth every single one of Spidey's enemies, one a time, so we could all enjoy seeing McFarlane draw them. Michelinie was (is!) an incredible writer, possibly the best one in Marvel history, but the story of that run was essentially "look how fucking great this art is."
What you posted, sir, was the opposite of that.
