Holy shit, FoK. HOLY SHIT.
This is absolutely every frustration I've ever had with Microsoft in one tale. This is it. This is their stupid, half-assed way of doing everything.
I feel that for the longest time, "people" and I use that term loosely, "people" who would write M$ and shit in the 90s hated Microsoft for a set of reasons that I didn't really care about. They were anti-competitive. (So were the Klingons and Kirk said LET.... them die.) Their security wasn't the greatest. Windows wasn't as good as Unix. All true, all stuff that you can get away with if you're not a zealot. All my platform anger from my youth melted away when I realized I could buy an Amiga and Atari ST as an adult.
But it's this shit, the shit you discussed. Demanding an 11 character password with symbolic requirements for a 7 year old's password on a firewalled account that isn't an admin. Who the fuck cares? FoK Jr's password should be "countsarebetter" because his dad wrote one of the top 50 songs of all-time. We aren't making kids more technology-aware by putting this shit in at age 7. Age 12? Sure. Age 7? Fuck you, Microsoft. Fuck the guy who kinda wanted to put shit in for kids, but not really and after all, "Who will even notice?"
The Hotmail thing, holy fuck. Like you, I have a Hotmail account because my Xbox 360. Nobody wants their shitty e-mail service, nobody wants this Hotmail nonsense when they already have an e-mail address. Even if you use a Hotmail account you don't want it tied to your Microsoft stuff. It's so clearly a dumbfuck manager putting forth a decree because HURR that would get Hotmail usage up, and then the developers coded integration of it with other services like they were forced to. Because they were forced to.
And then they got something people do like in Minecraft and they couldn't, of course, just let it be awesome for kids. They had to put their moronic hooks into it and force people to use their awkward, shitty store.
