I didn't know how expensive prescriptions are by Commander Tansin A. Darcos 04/23/2016, 10:10am PDT
I got the monthly list of my prescriptions Medicare Part D pays for for the month of March. Having had congestive heart failure I am taking a number of prescriptions. This one had 5 listed, but the one that surprised me was Eliquis.

For a 90 day supply, 5mg picked up from what used to be Target Pharmacy and has since been rebranded as CVS Pharmacy, Medicare paid a whopping $905.01. The State of Maryland, through the Extra Help program, paid an additional $107.60. Now, what was my copay?

$7.40.

It kind of amazes me that this drug would have cost me $1012, or about $340 a month, or rather, it would not have cost me that much since there is no way I could have afforded it.

And this is one single drug. The other two of significance are digoxin which Extra Help paid $106.33 and my copay was $2.95, and levothyroxine, which Medicare paid $51.93, Extra Help paid $34.55, and my copay, again, was $2.95.

For any of you reading this, you might want to try to stay healthy or your bad eating habits could catch up with you, either through serious medical costs or, if you couldn't afford it, dying early.
