I like board war games. I was unaware of "Wild Weasel" until I saw this thread. This podcast is pretty useless; playing war games for 40 years has given Bruce the ability to praise every game ever made. I'm really not sure that I have heard more than extremely mild criticism from him in this or 3 Moves Ahead, on which he is the weakest panelist. A huge problem with wargaming is that too many people love everything. Most of the time this because people don't actually play the games -- they are over-grown (and over-fed) children/hoarders with spending problems. They read the rules, maybe, and then post on the internet how cool it is, then buy another game to gush over.

This show consists of three unoriginal segments:

1) The news segment is more or less the news feed from Consimworld or Board Game Geek put through a prissify filter and then read aloud.
2) The interview/discussion is better. Actual designers/industry people like Nick Karp or Mark Herman actually have things to say, although they are given about 5 minutes to say them. It was interesting to hear Herman say he hates the bucket of dice resolution mechanic. No one is desperate for another place to hear Tom Chick speak.
3) Finally, Thoughts From Geryk or whatever it is called. It should be called "A man with a high-pitched voice repeats conventional wisdom in a shitty mic." Geryk seems like a nice enough guy (who is cursed with the inability to acquire a decent mic), and he is clearly book smart, but for a critic he really seems to lack a critical vantage point. This section is like going to Board Game Geek and running Word's autosummarize over all of the comments of the people who rated a game '10.'

And of course, this is all delivered Bruce Style(tm), that is in the rigid, joyless manner you would expect from an executioner.

Compare this to, say, "Guns, Dice, and Butter" which only comes out a couple of times a year, but features designers either telling actual stories or discussing how to design for specific situations. It's a bit self important, but still shows that war games are about entertainment and exploring history, in equal measure. Or "Advance After Combat," which is boozy and a little formless, but again, shows the actual fun of hanging out with similarly minded people, getting blitzed, and rolling dice.
