Forum Overview :: Cogmind

If you dig the "retro-future" thing I mentioned in the Duskers review, this one tops even that. Every single thing oozes Matrix-y cool, green monochrome-monitor, terminal font awesomeness.

Instead of levelling up attributes, one progresses in Cogmind by finding and equipping your guy (a robot) with various modules, weapons, and whatnots you find along the way, boosting your energy levels (used for energy weapons), weapons capacity, armor, scanning abilities, etc.

It can be played with virtually any interface, but the keyboard is the most elegant and coolest.

It can be played in ASCII mode or in tileset mode, and while the tiles are very pretty, the "ASCII" is legendary, featuring some of the coolest graphical effects you could imagine.

It's just a totally epic sci-fi roguelike, wrapped in a magnificent package, and while it's still in "Alpha" (1.0 expected later this year, maybe), it's so far and away more complete, full of content and absent of bugs than your standard "Alpha" release, that he really could have released it a year ago and nobody would have complained.

I've only scratched the surface, both with this review and in the game itself, but I mean, it's just awesome.

Look. Here is what you see when you fire the game up. If this doesn't do it for you, then I guess I can't sell you on it. But if it does, then it's already sold:

(Watch in high-def if possible)
