Still Imperialism and Act of War by fabio 06/28/2016, 3:27am PDT
Civ 4 (aka Fall from Heaven 2) might be the technically deeper game but I just cannot deal with the late game slog anymore. Not only does Imperialism avoid that, but after all these years I've finally figured out the secret to not losing 90% of normal difficulty games (it involves the amazingly counter intuitive, undocumented mechanic of automatic village industrialization).

Act of War still has the best skirmish AI I've ever seen. It's C&C Generals with endless single player legs. Just wish the pathfinding was better.
