Out of This World is a good comparison. It's kind of clever how Inside is a 2D game that doesn't feel like an 8-bit pixel art homage. Instead, it's got a really great understated art design.
If you like puzzle platformers, then you will probably like this. It is a bit short by the standards of Olden Tymes (it's something like 5 hours or maybe 6 to get the normal ending). I haven't gone back to get all the bonuses yet.
It's kind of weird that the game reviewers are jerking off over the plot, since the game almost doesn't have one. There is no dialogue or infodumping. Everything is just implied. Not that that's a bad thing-- they realized that saying more would just reduce the atmosphere of strangeness, and so they avoided fucking it up by adding in dialogue or text. But I guess in the realm of video games, that counts as supreme artistic success. Or something.
Anyway-- the graphics are beautiful and it was worth it for me. I'm sure it will be on sale at some point so you could always wait too |
