You know a game has become special when you look forward to the next playthru before you even finish your current game. Grimy's Loot Mod made XCom2 like this for me. It adds Diablo-style random loot to the game, but it's all nice and overpowered enough maybe the next game I'll get some early crazy drop early enough that it will change everything. Feels pretty balanced when I upped the difficulty and installed all the mods from Long War Studios--the tougher aliens go well nicely with the Loot Mods, and the other stuff is must-have. Firaxis basically financed these guys to make mods, which worked out so well those mods are better than the official DLC. The DLC are fun additions, bonus missions and a robot and extra gear. The official pay-stuff is bonus, but you have to have the free mods. Grimy's Loot even has DLC versions, which improves how the vanilla robot becomes pretty weak late-game. There's different crazy combinations of loot that can make it a badass for the final mission. My current robot is a super accurate sniper with bonus damage but no crits, and has an extra charge of the flamethrower which has a wider radius. Suddenly I'm actually using the flamethrower.

That's about all you need, along with all the bonus map packs out there and a language/voice pack or two.
