Re: The adventure game's writing is not up to par with 2 great sho by Rafiki 12/18/2016, 4:31pm PST
This problem extends to shooters. Sometimes I shoot or explode something and a random background object goes flying. What is this irrelevant bullshit?! More relevant in games, action scientists!

Yeah, since when did action involve explosions and reckless destruction? That's the worst comparison. Putting in 100,000 random objects that serve no purpose other than the main character providing dull narrative is....adventure? At the time I made my original post, I was only partway into episode 2. Now I finished episode 3. Kate's story in episode 2 is the perfect example of what I'm talking about. Snooping around her room seems pointless at first, but then turns out to have a HUGE payoff in the end. This is GOOD. I want more of this and less of everything else. If adventure games are going to expect me to click on every single item and sit through 10 hours of dialogue about it, I'd like to have those details tie back into the game somehow instead of just making the playtime longer.

Figuring out a logical way to use items at hand and Prince of Persia time powers to retrieve screws is still better than 99% of adventure game puzzles.

But the utter banality of that puzzle is worth criticizing. They even reused it (!!), only the second time I had to move a crate to use as a stepstool to grab a bottle. ADVENTURE! :(

Optional minigames? Why I never! RELEVANT ONLY PLZ *beep* *boop* *beep*

Ok, fair enough.

is Dropy's appeal in playing an autistic teaching everyone the beauty of simple joys?

Dropsy's appeal was that it had reasonable puzzles which made it fun, and was efficient at storytelling which didn't waste my time. Click on an NPC and you'd get a picture of how they feel and why they felt that way. Solve the puzzle to make them happy, which was the premise of the game. You'd even get to see a small outcome to your actions. Perfect! Straight to the point.

Why are you playing adventure games?

Because it was supposed to be fun. :( Now that I got through episode 3, my opinion has softened. The endings to 2 and 3 are quite good in terms of how your choices can effect the game in big ways, and it's dramatic enough that I'm kind of invested. POSITIVE! I want more of this too. But you tell me that the game craters from now on. Combine that with a weak episode 1, and only 2 out of 5 chapters are worthwhile. :(
