Dissapointment of the year: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided by fabio 01/08/2017, 6:31pm PST
I can only play i short bursts until I get bored and go do something else.

The entire time I cannot get over how this feels like a direct to video sequel.

The opening to Human Revolution did a decent job of establishing everything as well as the tension of its setting. Sariff was an interesting Steve Jobs unintentional asshole with an amazing voice actor. It only got bad at the end of the prologue when the writing B team took over and it turned into the intro for Double Dragon.

Contrast this to Mankind Divided which is terrible right away. The prologue is straight out of a Rob Liefeld "jump out of a plane into the bad guy's base" opening. The dialog is terrible. Nobody gets a personality. Like Worm mentioned, they ditch any kind of real life parallel or nuanced conflict and constantly lean on ZOMBIE AUGOCALYPSE! After the prologue, they try to have their own Half Life tram ride + City 17 moment. Not only is it a blatant xeroxed ripoff, all control is taken away so you can't even wander around checking out little details. It's also glitchy as fuck. No less than 5 instances of models suddenly popping up and people walking straight through each other.

They cannot make you feel for bombing victims without putting in a child crying for mommy. It's the B team at full work again, unable to make any kind of narrative point without a sledgehammer. In Human Revolution, there was at least some kind of editor who occasionally cut back on their stupidity. In the original trailers, newly auged Jensen was using his robot arms to drink scotch and smoke; the point of his compromised humanity was subtle enough. Later on we saw that the original clip had Jensen's robot hand cracking the glass DO YOU SEE HIS BODY IS NOT HIS OWN AND HE CANNOT GO BACK TO THE SIMPLE PLEASURES OF BEFORE? The B team's sledgehammer, everyone. Not only is that editor nowhere to be found in Mankind Divided, but they actually snuck the glass cracking clip back into this game! I'm imagining all the bitter B team writers had friends in management that they used to carry out a complete purge of editors and any of the remotely talented writers from the previous game who did all the side conversations and emails. This is supported by the fact that all the emails are terribly written now. All the last nooks and crannies that the good writing hid out in are gone.

Forget the Illuminati, there is a secret shadow council made up of Chris Metzin, Ken Levine, and Motomu Toriyama determined to stamp out all decent writing in games.
