And that's pretty much why.
Most first time players tried recruiting a starting team, then quickly got killed or ran out of money. Veterans then tell them, "No, what you're supposed to do is hire a couple of the best mercs for only 1 day then keep all their equipment."
And it was tons of scripted stuff like that which kept adding up to the point it didn't feel like you were even playing anymore, just following a Sierra adventure game walkthrough on exactly what you needed to do.
I've even managed to work through the original X-COM's campaign. JA2's campaign felt bullshit by comparison. |
