Why do you distoet what I say? by Commander Tansin A. Darcos 02/23/2017, 7:36pm PST
Original title: You dismiss the consensus of scientists as "hogwash", but then seek answers on a bbs where people call you autistic?

First, where did I use that word? At what point did I use that word? I said that scientific consensus is nothing. The data is what is important. A bunch of people who agree on an issue neither proves the issue correct nor represents the actual truth or falsity of the particular question. Nor do others who disagree with that consensus, even if more numerous, necessarily prove the idea wrong. It is simply what those people agree with. If the evidence is concordant with or overwhelmingly supportive of what they agree on then their consensus is supported by the evidence. But a group of people believing in something, whether it's a tested and proven scientific theory like evolution or gravity, or a belief that Allah chose Muhammad as his prophet and those not supporting the caliphate must convert to Islam or be killed as infidels, is still merely an opinion. The evidence is what is important. If the evidence supports the opinion then it is reasonable to base an opinion on what the evidence says.

Second, I am concerned with exactly what the actual "consensus" is and whether what is claimed is accurate. If scientists were asked if they thought temperatures were rising, and agreed, and were asked if they thought it was human caused, and those who either said it was possible or that5 the data did not exclude that as a possibility, and counted this as total agreement to both points, this would be inaccurate.

Third, who said I was seeking answers? I simply expose my thoughts here because I know people will comment. Does not mean I accept their answers or even agree with them. But the first thing anyone who wants to actually formulate good ideas needs to do is be certain they do not restrict themselves to a "bubble" of those who regularly would, or would always, agree with them. Differing viewpoints, even if wrong or inaccurate, may still have value.
