The original topic was how we should all be outraged over Trump killing the Meals on Wheels program. Then we learned that the funding is only being cut by 3%, by Meals on Wheels' own reckoning. And more than half of the funding for MoW is private, so Trump and the Republicans can't touch it.
Rather than being embarrassed over your outrageous lie, you guys doubled down on it by saying that we had "no class" for questioning your virtue. And then started having debates with imaginary libertarian strawmen. (I don't think anyone here is a Libertarian. Not even TDARCOS.)
The Community Development Block Grant program is a huge failure by anyone's standard. It was started in the 1970s (an era when everyone was fleeing to the suburbs) to try to fix the problems of decaying urban areas. It created messes like like "the projects" that ghettoized black communities in giant brutalist concrete buildings. Basically all of the bad things Jane Jacobs wrote about in The Death and Life of Great American Cities. And it failed to make the cities attractive to people with the money to live elsewhere.
40 years later, our cities are doing better because people actually want to live there again. The CDBG is now just a generic vehicle for pork and corruption that political cronies use to build vitally important infrastructure like golf courses and breweries. Nobody should be sad to see it go, unless you are one of said cronies.
So stop posting fake news, and stop attacking people for their "class" (I thought having social classes was bad? Don't people read Marx any more? Or have they moved on to other sources of bullshit?) |
