I would be recreating it in VALVe's Source Engine (used to make Half-Life 2, portal, portal 2, left-4-dead, left-4-dead 2, team fortress 2, titanfall, etc.) However, before actually developing the game I have decided that I am going to make a short 3d animation featuring the first scene from planetfall. If it picks up enough popularity then I will continue with the development. Once the animation it's done I will be sending a message to Steve Meretzky asking if he would be okay with me recreating his masterpiece. There are still a lot of things I have to plan for but it's a continuing work-in-progress.

Just stumbled upon this. Have you kept on this endeavor?

HI!
yes and no
The project has been put on hold for until I can improve my coding skills and my experience with shaders, also I'd like to be able to work on this with someone or hopefully build up an actual dev team.
Also, ive decided to use blender game engine instead of source engine, as its features are more up to date and is easier to develop for. :)
This is especially going to be difficult as far as the "control" scheme goes as well. I'm planning on coding a plugin that allows the player to switch between using both keyboard and the mouse (it will be a fps type game) to giving commands to the character like you could in the original game.
And then

At this point, I'm not sure. Id like to make a small profit off of this but id have to get permission from Steve Meretzky (the CEO of INFOCOM at the time that PLANETFALL was created and was the main author of it). I finally found a way to contact him (surprisingly enough he is not on any social media sites). But I don't want to bring it up until I have some content worth sharing. I've been thinking about this for a while and what i think im going to end up doing is releasing a short film, featuring the beginning of the game where the main character is cleaning in the halls of the ship, ship goes boom, character gets to the escape pod just in time, the character drifting in the escape pod for a while, then crash lands on the seemingly empty planet. If he approves of it and the community likes it, then I will move forward with the project.
