No. It serves no purpose to have two threads about the same piece of news just so one thread can be used to make jokes about murder, prison, and/or suicide.

If you're worried about reddit slipping into tyranny, fortunately you have the freedom to choose a different discussion board, just as that (and any) discussion board has the freedom to decide what content is allowed to be posted to it.
