| The deliveries are awful. Their approach seems to be "just shotgun a ton of lines and hope some work". Either that, or they didn't want to hurt any feelings in the writer's room so they included every suggestion.
They desperately need to cut two-thirds of the jokes. It's relentless listening to, and when the occasional joke comes up that could be good it's buried under the stampede of other lines. "Back then, workplace diversity was more about height and shoe color" should have worked, but its rushed panicked delivery to fit in more non-jokes killed it. There's also this weird issue where the timing is so off it comes off as a sloppy editing mistake. "The time is now quarter to three" when the clock reads twelve, fire off a bunch of other lines, then 5 seconds later the clock is quarter to three. There were a bunch of other examples but that was the most obvious. The skits....eh. They feel like Joel skits except they replaced Dr Forrester with Pearl 2.0. Jonas doesn't feel like a character, just some guy who showed up because they needed a warm body to play host. If we play the Redlettermedia "describe this character" game, I could come up with "friendly naive who's easy to take advantage of" for Mike but draw a complete blank for Jonas. I quit less than an hour in and switched it to Puma Man. The difference in quality was flooring. |
