double taxation.
"Double taxation" doesn't exist. It's a concept invented by rich people to say "I don't like being taxed" but in a way to make less bright people (sorry) think "Hey yeah! I shouldn't be taxed twice! When poor people are only taxed once, those lucky ducks?! That's unfair."
And since being fair is very important to rich people born into wealth (or merely born into the top earning country or race or sex), the meme of "double taxation" spreads among all the worst people.
Double taxation doesn't exist anywhere except when you make an artificial window to view two taxed transactions out of any context, and make the mental leap to suddenly consider them from one "chunk" of income, as if income is a trophy earned, a discrete package that is passed on for generations. You know, instead of fungible numbers that represent a value.
But, you've done something really extraordinary. Instead of complaining about double taxation of shareholders being taxed for dividend income already made and taxed by the corporation, you've gone the stupid route of claiming payroll tax and tax paid to vendors is like a second tax on income!
Where does that line of thinking end? Hey, this plumber is charging me tax? Why do I also have to pay income tax?!?! And then an estate tax when I die?! How many times will the one huge piece of income I earned over my life be taxed?!?!
(And I know, for you libertarians out there, that line of thinking never stops, no taxes ever, yes yes.)
As for the rest of your post, I don't love it either, but don't have a better solution. It's just the typical race to the bottom, because there's always a better deal somewhere else on this shrinking world. Watch untaxed corporations still not build in America because of crippling high worker wages. Then because of the stifling 40 hour work week. Then because of bureaucratic regulation. Then because of all labor laws. There's always going to be a more attractive, sexier country out there with fewer barriers and a shittier standard of living we can sink to compete with. Hopefully we can keep up with more anal and threesomes and boob implants, I dunno. |
