Random thoughts:
Overall, really liked it.
It's half a movie. It should have been subtitled "Part I"
Ryan Gossling is a very canadian Terminator. Actually only twice did it remind me of Terminator 3 style action, and both times it wasn't good. (For this movie. T3 was great I thought, for the most part.)
The second T3 moment was in the climactic fight at the car about to be swept into the ocean. That fight made ZERO SENSE. Start with both replicants firing and hitting each other . . . where? Neither had any injury a minute later. Shot in the blood! Ow my blood! Then the ninja lady replicant stabs our hero and seems pretty satisfied that that oughtta do it. But again, moments later he's basically unharmed and killing her like a robot would.
Not a huge fan of the slaves are gonna rebel subplot. I feel like these pretty great first movies are setting us up for a "Matrix Revolutions" not-really-great finale.
Ridley Scott is some kind of religious idiot now, as we saw in Prometheus. But I do like Evil Jesus. I'm sure he's there to remind us of how great "real" Jesus is though.
How big of a self absorbed boomer idiot is he that he thinks anyone in 2049 will care about music from the 60s. Good grief.
I wondered if the loud low elephant honks were the sound of the flying car powerplants or the shit playing on the stereo. Since it was the end credits music, I guess it was the shit on the stereo. ;) |
