while we're on the topic of Steam shit that is awful.
I have a Steam controller - which I use to play Cuphead and Rocket League - and Steam seems to think that if I turn on that controller, I want to control Steam with it. I do not. I *just* want it to work in the game. But Steam feels very strongly that if I have a controller activated that clearly I prefer a bullshit Smart TV-looking interface that's slow as shit and confusing. But if I launch the Steam controller *after* launching a game, the game doesn't recognize the controller (this is true for Cuphead anyway, I believe it may not be true for Rocket League).
I've found that the only tolerable experience is to launch the controller and as the very next action press the Play button for the game in my Library. This properly threads the needle and lets me play the game with the controller without forcing me to experience Big Picture Mode.
Right. I don't get that at all. I mean, that can be a flag in settings somewhere.
I don't want to come off as a hater in this thread. Nobody roots harder for Valve than I do. The Steam Link is so close to being perfect! And I like the Steam gamepad. Not my favorite controller, not in my top 5 or anything, but it's good. Better than a lot of other things I've used for the PC and the wireless / touchpad piece of it is great.
We aren't haters here at Caltrops.
