I saw hundreds of movies last year, about forty good ones. by Pirate DVD Review 01/01/2018, 9:58pm PST
Here's my top ten, in descending order of how much I enjoyed them. The top five is solid but after that it gets kind of messy. Call it a five way tie for sixth place.

1. Sicario (2015) polytechnique with mexican gunmen instead of female engineering students
2. Happy Accidents (2000) how'd I never see this before? best time travel movie or is it
3. Cloud Atlas (2012) more mind expanding and almost as good as the matrix
4. Edge of Tomorrow (2014) starship troopers 2
5. 13 Hours (2016) no kidding this made me grow an operator beard
6. Sabotage (2014) check imdb trivia afterwards for the ending the studio didn't want you to see
7. Star Trek: Beyond (2016) at this point they're just doing impressions of the old cast and I couldn't be happier
8. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) better than the first one
9. The Guardian (2006) the rare guy drama that isn't about sports
10. Interstellar (2014) broke a nine year no-crying streak

Honourable mentions, in alphabetical order:

American Yakuza (1993) watch it when you need to chill
Australia (2008) I kept waiting for them to sing but it never happened
Captain America: Civil War (2016) they're getting better at these every year
City of Industry (1997) "hey harvey keitel why don't you call the police" "I'M MY OWN POLICE"
Ghost in the Shell (2017) johnny mnemonic 2
Girlfight (2000) first and only time I could relate to a woman
Ice Station Zebra (1968) kickin ass antarctica style
Jake Speed (1986) B-grade romancing the stone
Los Angeles Plays Itself (2003) today this would be a very long youtube video
Love Is Strange (2014) doesn't go anywhere
Men of War (1994) if they ever make a movie of my life I want trevor goddard to play me
Redemption (2013) haven't seriously contemplated doing a nun since father dowling went off the air
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) marisa tomei and jennifer connelly and I'm watching two fat kids build a lego death star
The Trials of Cate McCall (2013) take a drink every time she makes a bad choice 'cause of alcoholism
xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017) I live for this shit
