You may have opened a portal to hell. Torch the place, then borrow TDARCOS' G4 by blackwater 01/11/2018, 4:55pm PST
The last time I saw "generally suspicious things" happening with my PC, it turned out to be a memory issue. it happened at work, actually... things that succeeded on other people's machines would fail on mine, with no really useful error messages. It was a mystery, until I tested the memory.

I know you said earlier in the thread that you tested the memory using the BIOS. But BIOS programmers are usually pretty bad at their jobs. You might try downloading a real memory check tool like MemCheck86, where you boot it from a CD and it tests the whole memory for you several times over.

Does this seem like a my GPU is the culprit?

I mean it's worth trying. Can you run with on-board video and see if the problem goes away?

Flaky behavior also often results from some kind of overheating problem. Check the temperatures on everything.

Stuck on bootup or shutdown? by Entropy Stew 01/06/2018, 2:32pm PST NEW
It's on shutdown. I'm burning disks in anticipation of an HD wipe as we speak. NT by Mischief Maker 01/06/2018, 4:14pm PST NEW
Could a dying soundcard cause this? by Mischief Maker 01/07/2018, 7:53am PST NEW
No idea. Pull it and see if the issue goes away by Entropy Stew 01/07/2018, 10:54am PST NEW

So it might not be the motherboard? by Mischief Maker 01/10/2018, 4:29pm PST NEW
Correct. Unplug everything and bring it back one at a time. by Ice Cream Jonsey 01/10/2018, 5:37pm PST NEW
Well it wasn't the soundcard. by Mischief Maker 01/10/2018, 5:50pm PST NEW
Windows Memory Diagnostic tool wouldn't catch it if it were the RAM? NT by MM 01/10/2018, 9:37pm PST NEW
BIOS flash didn't fix it either. by Mischief Maker 01/10/2018, 7:31pm PST NEW
UPDATE: There's now a driverless device in my Device Manager. by Mischief Maker 01/10/2018, 7:46pm PST NEW
NEVERMIND. Windows Update found the driver. I don't even know what it was. NT by Mischief Maker 01/10/2018, 7:49pm PST NEW
