Believe some of you know my brother.

Stardock bought the IP of Star Control. So they can use the name "Star Control" and sell the old games - even 3 - and make new games with that name.

The guys who actually made the games didn't sign a non-compete pact or anything. There's nothing stopping them from saying, "From the creators of Star Control comes the new thing." Stardock would be very foolish to want to stop that and frankly, their quibbles over the word "creator" versus "designer" is pathetic. If they didn't anticipate that the CREATORS of Star Control might make a game in the future, well, nobody held a gun to their head when it came to buying the IP.

Can you imagine someone suing David Crane because he is calling himself the creator of Pitfall! and wanted to make a spiritual sequel to it?
