I'm deciding I really don't like my cat by Commander Tansin A. Darcos 05/22/2018, 6:02pm PDT
I love my cat but I have reservations and second thoughts about having this cat and I've come to the conclusion that if I had known at the time I was offered the cat what I now know about it I suspect I would have refused taking it.

The cat likes to go into places where it causes problems, like jumping in the recycling bin. This unbalances the bin, knocking it over and strewing various trash all over the floor. Or he attacks a box of stoire-brand Rice Krispies and spews a mess of dry cereal over the floor. Even with broom and dustpan it's a pain cleaning it up.

On my desk is a monitor, two backup hard drives, a UPS, my main computer and on the shelf below, my keyboard and mouse. I find it difficult to keep the cat away from this area.

I don't want him using the keyboard shelf as a short cut because I never know what key gets pressed.
I don't want him using the front of my desk as a shortcut because this places him in front of the monitor.
I don't want him using the UPS as a stepping stone because - as has happened at least once - he'll step on the "OFF" button and shut down everything.
I don't want him to try tasting the electrical cables because either he damages something or bites through a wire carryiong 115v AC resulting in him never doing that - or anything else - again.
I don't want him climbing up on the table because the space between the front and the back, while perfectly path sized for the cat, is also the right size for me to set a cup of soda.
I don't want him walking behind the monitor because he sometimes knocks the power cord loose.

If I'm in bed and he knocks something over or disconnects the monitor I can't continue watching whatever I was. The only means to repair it is to painfully bring myself to my wheelchair, painfully get into the chair, then move stuff around so I can reach the connectors and restore everything.

He doesn't seem to understand that "NO!" means anything other than "stop doing that and come back and try again in five minutes." I have slight5ly better results with "SPRAY!" combined with the brandishing of or actual use of a spray bottle of water, but that also doesn't last long.

Plus he likes to claw the top of my wheelchair. The back cushion has what feels like thousands of pinpricks along the top..
