Brian Wilson is deaf in one ear, so he didn't give a damn. They've rereleased Beach Boys music with poorly remastered stereo. It's also possible all the Beach Boys songs on YouTube I sampled to try and find it have stereo correction either by the uploader or by YouTube and so when I listened to all those songs to try to match the one I heard one of the, actually was the same song but was corrected in some fashion.
Let's also consider stereo was probably bleeding edge technology in 1966 and hard to get right, like sound in film in 1924 or color in film in 1940. Making stereo phonorecords would require a form of stereo that if played on a mono phonograph would still be audible.
NTSC Color television required a lot of work in the '50s to get it to downgrade to black and white without affecting those sets. That may be why there was such a stink over the new ATSC digital standard, which obsoleted every analog television made unless fitted with an adapter. |
