He possibly could be dead, and if he is: probably from a car. People lose cats from cars all the time, especially house cats. But not from starvation or dehydration, especially since he's been well fed. He could live for months outdoors if he's a shitty hunter, and if he catches shit, for years. Was he fixed? If not, he'll stick around, within a few hundreds of yards. Hiding.
Here's the thing, you could be banging on cat cans, and he could be in earshot, but unless he can actually see you, he won't get it. Cats are weird, remember this is an animal that perceives the universe different from you. He's hearing all kinds of shit more than you could possibly hear (for miles), and it's all kinds of noise to him. He's not like a dog. Cats have to turn their heads towards something, focus their ears at it, and then they might just filter all the noise and get it. Sometimes cats don't even recognize their owners outside, because they have never seen them outside. Cats are weird.
I take my cat out a lot, attach a clothesline to him on his cat harness so I can follow where he's off to. Doing this, he never tries to escape, he's always standing at the door debating whether to stay in or not. But if you don't ever take them out, they will try to escape whenever they can. Seriously, by taking him out every few days, you stop the escape artist behavior. Anyway, today I was yelling for him to come inside, because it's hot as hell. Little bastard completely ignoring me. I had to walk down, past the huge bush he was behind, and yell over for him to come on in already. There he was, panting like an idiot, but now he could see me, focus his ears at me, understood inside and he came running over. I pet him and told him, come on man let's go in, and he got it. Ran up with me to the back door.
Maybe the devil is right and one of his coyote's got him, but probably not because cats are smarter than dogs when it come to coyotes. I would listen to Jonsey. |
