When an accusation occurs by Commander Tansin A. Darcos 07/02/2018, 11:05pm PDT
About 20 years ago our next door neighbor got sick, such that she couldn't take care of herself. So my sister decided to start doing so. She set up a bed in the living room next to the couch, and set up a food table so her meals could be handled. This was much better than her being abandoned to a nursing home where nobody cared, and Mrs. Parks liked the idea.

A few weeks later our neighbor accused my sister of some misconduct. This lasted until the next morning when she came back to her senses. So I went to speak to her. I explaned that if she was going to make false accusations like she had she wouldn't be able to stay, either she'd have to go back to living on her own or else she'd have to go into a nursing home. However, what we could do was mount a video camera plugged into the wall that ran continuously, pointed at her, and install a bank of three video tape recorders (3 x 8 hours means continuous coverage). Together this would cost about $600. And she would pay for it. She agreed,

I took one of her credit cards, bought the VCRs, the camera, a shelf, the cables and enough VHS tapes to record 3 shifts for a week, and wired it all together; the tapes would be reused a week later if nothing happened. Unlike a "real" nursing home, accusations of misconduct were known to be false - My Sister loved Mrs. Parks more than if she were our mother. - so we actually would want evidence of what was happening. I even posted a sign on the outside front door warning people that 24 hour audo/video surveillance was in use.

This worked perfectly, even when some people from the county came by and asked what the equipment was for. I told the truth: it was to provide 24/7 monitoring of Mrs Parks to show she was never mistreated.

The point here was 20 years ago setting up continuous audio/video coverage of an office was expensive. Today you can buy a surveillance system with 4 cameras for about $100, or just mount the equivalent of a dash cam on continuous recording, for maybe $50.

After the first time Dr. Peterson received accusations of misconduct he should have bought an audio/video surveillance system mounted discreetly in a corner. The video is erased every couple of weeks or so if nothing happened. If there is an interview or meeting, those video clips can be copied and saved for a longer period.
