| The graphics are improved a little but the gameplay somehow became even worse!
And I thought the original game's intro was a pain in the ass. Before I had to shave a few rocks, make them into plates, carve up a giant blue dildo, and I was on my way. Now I have to construct a cable dish, break into someone's space-trailer, construct a refinery engine, and so on and so on. Everything that was kinda annoying before is a baffling ordeal now. Wanna open a space chest? First you gotta collect a block of worthless scrap and put it into your inventory, then enter your inventory and delete the scrap so you have room for whatever was in the chest. I'm sitting on the second planet, putting dihydrogen into a piece of refinery equipment and being informed that the process will take 2 minutes to complete and I said to myself, "This is not fun and it will never become fun. Even if I refine enough fictional chemicals to actually buy a fleet of capital ships, the resulting action will be just as disappointing as the journey to earn them." If you want to fly around in a cool spaceship blowing up pirates and occasionally mining asteroids to build even bigger and cooler weapons, play Everspace. If you want to design and build a giant sci-fi mining and refinery operation to build bigger and better machinery, play Factorio. Hell, if you want an open-world game engine that smoothly transitions from deep space to detailed planetary surface, play Megaton Rainfall. Everything No Man's Sky attempts, some other game does a zillion times better. Also, it's cute how people were screaming bloody murder about how poorly optimized Battletech was on launch day compared to how shittily No Man's Sky runs 2 years post-release. |
